Bremen, Oktober, HSV v STP

Alright so yesterday I was skyping with my Mom and she told me that she wasn’t too happy with my last post not having any pictures - so I’m going to make sure and include some this time around.

It was another good week here in Hamburg.  I got a bit sick this week and well I was told about 15 times this week that girls seem to handle colds much better than guys do.  I scoffed at this, but then proceeded to miss two days of classes and act as though I had come down with some kind of life-threatening virus, haha.  SO anyways, I managed to make it to class on Thursday and Friday in time to learn about 15 new prepositions and a pretty sweet German song: Achim Reichel - Aloha Heja He .. but I still prefer a little more clubby music, so I’ll go ahead and recommend this one as well: Frauenarzt Manny Marc - Disco Pogo.

On Friday we went out a little ways to this bar that sells Guiness, because the entire time I’ve been here, I’ve been talking about Irish Car Bombs and how amazing they are.  So, after a sweet coincidence of finding the only bar in Germany (sarcasm) that sells Guiness, I went ahead and made myself teacher for the night.  We actually took it pretty easy on Friday night, because a lot of us were getting up to go to Bremen in the morning with the school.

Bremen is a city about an hour and 15 minutes southwest of Hamburg and we spent Saturday walking around the city checking out “how the modern and old architecture are always together”.  So, here are some pictures from the trip:

Main train station:

I really had no idea what was going on with this statue, but I thought a picture needed to be taken:

This was the center platz of the city… I think..:

This was inside a huge church, I think it was St. Peter’s, but I could be wrong.  (It’s hard to know exactly what is happening during a German tour, with a limited understanding of the language):

This was just at the entrance of a famous little street called Böttcherstraße (yes, I looked that up just to make sure):

SO - there are a good amount of pictures over my Saturday at Bremen.  I would go ahead and say that it’s definitely a place to check out in Germany.  I think it has the 10th largest population and is one of the bigger cities in Northern Germany.  I’ve also realized that if you are learning German, it is much easier to understand the Northern dialect compared to southern cities like Munich and Stuttgart, where they basically just abbreviate and slur everything.

I was going to go on and talk about the start of Oktoberfest and the big soccer match between the two teams here in Hamburg, but it’s late and I’ll just continue this post tomorrow.  So, look out for part two sometime tomorrow, and hopefully you enjoyed the extra pictures I put up today.

Oh and as an added bonus, here’s two pictures from the Ice Bar that we went to last weekend.

Ok.. bis morgan..
